Meet our bakers, the ones who make it all happen.
We are proud, lucky, and thrilled to have such an amazing and talented bakery staff. Our tiny bakery (trust me, the kitchen is really tiny) operates with a lot of heart and exacting efficiency to create an irresistible array of the best hand-made baked goods.
Lisa and Mark Cosgrove - Owners
Have you met Lisa and Mark Cosgrove? They look like well-seasoned food entrepreneurs but their story is not all food. Lisa started an IT career in the corporate world while Mark spent time honing his skills in the construction business. Before that, Lisa found her passion in baking, specializing in low-fat muffins and scones which she distributed to local farmers’ markets. Mark was no slouch in the epicurean world, being a trained culinary chef who worked during Philadelphia Renaissance restaurant scene.
As time flew by, they realized that food was their calling and decided to jump back in and partner in a successful Montreal-Style bagel business. So far, so good. Until they decided to venture out on their own with the Bakeshop on Twentieth. Today Lisa covers all that is sweet and satisfying while Mark handles the savory and downright delicious.
The Bakeshop on Twentieth is a new and much welcomed addition to the Rittenhouse Square area of Philadelphia. Noted in Zagat’s 6 New Hottest Bakeries in Philadelphia, the locals are loving the aromas of fresh baked pastries and breakfast sandwiches.

Jessica Stern - Baker/manager
Created "The Rittenhouse Square"
As a graduate of Temple University’s Tourism and Hospitality Management program, Jessica Stern always knew that she would somehow end up working in the food and beverage industry. However, when she began, she had no idea that her passion and dedication would lead her to her dream career of becoming a baker. While she began her journey working front of the house positions at some of Philadelphia’s finest restaurants, it didn’t take long for her to realize that her true calling was baking. What started as a hobby quickly became her way of life, and she has never looked back. Jessica has worked under some of the most talented pastry chefs in Philadelphia, and is extremely grateful for this opportunity to be working at the Bakeshop on Twentieth, where creativity and experimentation are so highly encouraged.
Meg SkilL - Baker
Nutmeg Cake Design
Meg has always been a maker, but it took her many years to find the perfect medium. After earning her BFA with a concentration in painting, she was eventually drawn to baking and subsequently to decorating. She is entirely self-taught and continues to passionately pursue new techniques to make cakes for clients that are simultaneously delicious, modern, and unique. When she's not in the kitchen, she can be found at the Philadelphia School of Circus Arts as an aerial instructor and continuing her flying trapeze training with Fly School Circus Arts.
